The San Francisco Bay spans the region between the East Bay and the San Francisco Peninsula. In its Northwest corner, it drains into the Pacific Ocean. It is spanned by numerous automobile bridges, including the Bay Bridge on the Eastern side of the peninsula, and the Golden Gate Bridge to the North. Additionally it can be traversed by ferry, or via BART in the trans-bay tube.
The Bay contains a number of islands, among them Alcatraz, and Treasure Island. It is notoriously deep and cold in the Northern section, while the more southern section tends towards being more shallow (but still cold).
