Muir Woods

Muir Woods National Monumant is a preservation area of redwood trees North of San Francisco, off of Highway One. It is named after the noted environmentalist John Muir. It is a beautiful spot, and a great "first look" for those not well acquainted with the forests of Northern California.

Unfortunately, in the summer it can be quite touristy, and the access road leading to woods can become difficult to navigate due to excessive traffic.
