| 1873 - The first Cable Car in San Francisco. |
In 1982, the world-famous San Francisco Cable Car system was completely shut down for two years. During that time, the cable car system — from the powerhouse machinery to the cables and tracks — was completely overhauled. The historic cable cars themselves were being refurbished at that time, too. The system was brought back into service in the summer of 1984.
